KNOWLEDGE KNIGHTS

Our Knowledge Knights Training Programme specialises in supporting people from backgrounds underrepresented in the heritage sector gain the skills, experience and confidence to play an active role in researching, reclaiming and explaining history.  For some, it may enable them to develop a career in the sector and for others its an opportunity to to  explore and share their passion for history whilst ensuring heritage is researched, preserved and shared in accessible and engaging manner.

By diversifying the voices that research, interpret and share history, we are able to deepen our understanding of the past and empower communities to preserve and protect the nation's heritage.  Diversifying the heritage sector enriches our understanding of our past and enhances how exploring history can contribute to contemporary life.

Working on a specific period of history or project, the Knowledge Knights, for a year, form an integral part of our research team.  They also assist with curation of interpretation materials and the delivery of outreach activities and events.  As well as playing a crucial role within the project, the participant will gain a wide range of transferable skills that help to enhance their future employability, empower them to lead their own project and deepen their understanding of the wider heritage sector.

In 2023, funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund enabled us to launch the Knowledge Knight Training programme and also provided the participants with a stipend to enable them to overcome any economic barriers to participation.  The team formed an integral part of our project, Stolen History: The Search for Luton's Medieval Past.  Although people who joined the training programme may have a variety of experience and skills, one of the most exciting elements of the course is that they get to form an integral part of an dynamic research and outreach heritage project.

The Knowledge Knights programme is available to deliver nationally.  If your organisation is interested in either supporting the programme, or inus delivering the programme as part of your own work or a new heritage project you wish to create, please email us for more information.

Interested in joining the Knowledge Knights?

Alongside our core team, we also have Associate Knowledge Knight positions available.  This enables you to join in some of our research and activities but without having to give the same level of commitment.  Associates do not receive the stipend but do get to join in exclusive training, trips and talks and play an active role in our research and the creating of our interpretation materials.  Recruitment to join our team remains open during the project.  Simply drop us an email at info@historyknights.com and let us know you are interested.

Recruitment for new Knowledge Knights programme and stipend positions will be listed on our opportunities page.
